Story[]
Abigail is Rachel's friend, although she does not go to Rachel's school. She lives with her little sister, Miriam, and their mum and dad, in a 'tall, red-brick house on the corner of the street' with a green front door. It is not too far from Rachel's house as the girls are able to walk over there easily.
Abigail's family is Jewish and the story meets them as they are celebrating the eighth night of Hanukkah. Rachel's dad asks the girls to take round some sufganiyot, or jam doughnuts, which he has made for the family's celebration. They do this, and are invited to stay for the party. Abigail explains how Hanukkah works whilst Miriam is excited for the presents. She asks the girls to play dreidel with her, and they go into the living room to learn how.
Their mum calls the girls away to help with plates in the kitchen, leaving Rachel and Kirsty to practice spinning the dreidel. The girls spot a goblin and are eventually locked into the larder. Out in the living room, the two goblins have dressed up as Rachel and Kirsty and are impersonating them. Abigail and Miriam are upset because the goblins are being very mean.
Eventually, once Rachel and Kirsty help Hana find her hanukkiah, the fairy makes it so that the family cannot remember any of the goblins' mischief.
