Worried girls and Mr Walker

The last morning of Kirsty and Rachel's week on Rainspell Island is very cold, and the girls find frost in the rental cottage garden and ice on the path. Behind the cottage, the girls find Carrie the Snow Cap Fairy among the frost-covered leaves of a plant, and Carrie tells them the goblins have taken her wand to Antarctica. She brings them there with a shower of magical sparkles, turning them into fairies and bundling them in warm clothes at the same time.

Goblin vs Penguin

Flying above icebergs, seals, and a whale, the three fairies approach the ice shelf along the Antarctic coast. It doesn’t take them long to find three Goblins, who are trying to get Carrie’s wand away from a large penguin who has grabbed it. As the wand comes loose from the penguin’s grasp, the ice underfoot breaks, leaving the goblins and the wand on a small floe that begins drifting out to sea. Kirsty offers Carrie’s help getting the goblins back to shore if they’ll hand over the wand, but the goblin holding it informs her that Jack Frost is on his way and will help them himself. The girls try to take the wand, but the goblin uses it to conjure a pile of snow and all three goblins begin throwing snowballs at the fairies.

Snowball Jack Frost in Carrie

One snowball flies past Carrie and ends up hitting Jack Frost, who has just appeared on the icy shore. He uses his own wand to make a bridge of ice for the goblins to follow, but one of them slips and falls in the water. The other two ignore him as they bring Carrie’s wand to Jack Frost, but a few seals help keep him afloat and Carrie uses some of her magic to pull the goblin to shore. Jack Frost grudgingly thanks Carrie for rescuing the goblin but refuses to return her wand; he tries to shoot a bolt of ice magic at the fairies but it fizzles out in midair. It seems that climate change isn’t only melting the ice caps, it’s also interfering with Jack Frost’s magic.

Jack Frost holds out Carrie’s wand, but changes his mind. Earnestly, Carrie tells him that she’ll do all she can to keep the ice caps cold if she has her wand back, but he and the goblins need to be environmentally responsible too. The girls make a few suggestions, and finally Jack Frost hands over Carrie’s wand, insisting he’s only helping the fairies for his own sake.

Carrie takes her wand and whisks the girls away to Fairyland, where King Oberon and Queen Titania place Carrie’s wand with the other Green Fairies’ wands to be filled with powerful Fairyland magic. Everyone gathers around the Seeing Pool as each Green Fairy, having formally completed her training, takes her newly charged wand and flies into the air. The queen congratulates them all and sends them off to perform their assigned duties. Kirsty worries aloud about the huge problems facing the environment, and the queen encourages her and Rachel to try and make a difference - even a small amount of improvement is better than nothing. The fairy king and queen send the girls back to Rainspell with some tree seeds to commemorate their latest adventure, and the girls talk about different ways they can try and help the earth as they help their parents pack to go home.
