Rachel and Kirsty have come to the Funky Feet Dance Studio to watch some of Rachel’s classmates perform a street dance routine as their variety show audition. Chatting with them on the way to the upstairs practice rooms, Rachel hears their practices haven’t been going well but to no surprise to her and Kirsty, the magic dance star is missing. The girls volunteer to lay out the dancers’ costumes in the large dressing room, hoping Darcey the Dance Diva Fairy will appear once they’re alone. Soon, she does, fluttering out of a box of stage makeup.

Peeking into the practice rooms, the girls and Darcey see teams practising several styles of dance, none performing well. But in the room where Tippington School’s team are supposed to be rehearsing, four Goblins in various costumes are doing four different styles of dance at once, hogging all the space while the Tippington team watch in annoyance. Rachel can tell they have Darcey’s star from how well they are dancing. When the music stops, Miss Patel (the teacher in charge of the Tippington team) tells the goblins to go register for auditions and get their own practice room. The girls take the opportunity to show the goblins downstairs, hoping they can get the magic star away from them.

The goblins keep dancing once they’re out in the corridor. One catches Kirsty’s hand and twirls her around and around, so fast that Darcey is sent flying out of Kirsty’s pocket. Seeing her, the goblins bolt, darting through the nearest door. Unfortunately for the girls, this door leads to a stairwell and there’s no way to know whether the goblins have gone up or down. Deciding they need help, Darcey whisks the girls to Fairyland, where they find all seven Dance Fairies having trouble with their own practice. Darcey quickly explains what’s going on and all of them return to the dance studio with her and the girls (who remain as fairies to search faster). Darcey sends the Dance Fairies to look downstairs while she and the girls search the dressing rooms, then some of the practice rooms as the rehearsals finish and dancers begin heading downstairs. Knowing the time before auditions is running short, Darcey calls the Dance Fairies back with a magical message and they all fly upstairs to search the next floor of practice rooms.

They find the goblins in a studio with a disco ball hanging from the ceiling. All ten fairies perch on top of this to watch the goblins. Kirsty spots the magic star inside the street-dancer goblin’s cap when he takes it off to perform a spin and she informs the others. Before they can decide what to do, the tap-dancer goblin throws his cane at the end of his routine, bumping the disco ball and sending all the fairies tumbling off. With their reflections in the mirrored walls and the disco ball, the goblins think there are so many fairies in the studio that they snatch up the cap and cower in a corner. Darcey instructs the Dance Fairies to keep moving so the goblins can’t count them and Rachel comes up with a plan.

Darcey turns the girls human and they tell the goblins that the Dance Fairies have come to help them come up with a winning routine. It takes a bit of persuasion, but soon the goblins line up and follow the fairies’ instructions, with the girls as their “backing dancers”. When Darcey calls for head spins, the street-dancer goblin eagerly takes off his cap and both girls rush to grab it. The magic star tumbles out, so shiny and reflective that neither the goblins nor the fairies can tell which reflection is the real star. Fortunately, the girls saw where it landed and Rachel snatches it up. She, Kirsty and Darcey lead the Dance Fairies downstairs to the dressing room before the goblins realise they have the star. Darcey reattaches the star to her wand just in time for the auditions to begin. The music from the stage plays through a speaker in the dressing room and the fairies have a small dance party of their own.

Trivia[]

  • Darcey's stunning dress is in the style of the 1920s, the fringes sway and shake when she dances and she is the second fairy to have her outfit inspired by the 1920s era, the first being Jessica the Jazz Fairy.
  • Her name is probably based on the famous dancer Darcey Bussell.
