Kirsty and Rachel are looking out of Kirsty's bedroom window at the cloudy evening sky. They spot one of Kirsty's neighbours, Mrs Anand, walking up the path to their house, wearing a sari. She rings the doorbell and Mr Tate answers. Kirsty explains that Mrs Anand moved in the previous month with her son, Kirin, who goes to Kirsty's school. Mr Tate calls the girls downstairs and explains that Mrs Anand has invited them to her house for a Diwali celebration. She explains that it's a Hindu festival and that night is the main day of celebrations.
The girls walk with Mrs Anand over to her house and marvel at the beautiful decorations. Their hostess explains what everything is called. Kirin appears at the top of the stairs, and the girls go upstairs with him to help decorate the attic. While they're stringing lights around the window, Mrs Anand calls Kirin down to meet some more guests. Kirsty and Rachel offer to stay and finish the task and their friend leaves. Suddenly, the lights start to glow even though neither girl has turned on the switch. One of the lantern doors opens on a hinge and Deena leans out, telling the girls she needs their help and throwing some fairy dust over them to bring them with her to Fairyland.
The girls appear on Festival Island, where the Festival Fairies live. It's decorated for Diwali, but is very quiet, which Deena explains isn't normal. Hana, Elisha, and Bea appear and greet the girls. They explain that Jack Frost has caused trouble and Deena uses her magic to show the girls what has happened. In the vision, Jack Frost is angry because there is not a festival celebrating him. Deena explains that Diwali reminds Hindus of lightness and goodness even in the dark of winter. Jack Frost announces he will be starting a festival in celebration of himself and will call it Frost Day. Deena offers to help but Jack Frost wants them to organise it all for him. The vision cuts to some goblins destroying the decorations on Festival Island and stealing the four magical objects. Deena says it's too late to save this year's Diwali, telling the girls she only brought them to Fairyland to help Hana, Elisha, and Bea, but Kirsty and Rachel tell her not to worry. While the other three stay on the island to guard it, Deena, Rachel, and Kirsty set off to the Ice Castle.
Outside, a festival tent has been erected and Jack Frost is sitting on a throne. He's used Deena's magic to begin to decorate. Some goblins are complaining and Jack Frost shouts at them to give him more ideas. He is frustrated that Deena's diya doesn't just magically give him ideas. The Ice Lord goes to the human world to steal ideas from someone's Diwali celebrations. Deena uses her magic and the three fairies follow him. They arrive at 'the biggest Diwali celebration in the city' and immediately spot Jack Frost causing problems and being rude. He is stealing elements of the festival. Whenever he takes another thing, the diya glows and the real-world decoration or idea starts to go wrong.
Jack Frost runs outside and along to the next house where he steals the idea of sparklers, which are called phuljhari. The fairies follow him. One of the goblins questions why all the humans look sad, and Deena mourns the fact that humans are kindly inviting him into their parties only to be treated rudely.
By now, Jack Frost has been using Deena's diya a lot, and it has started to glow too brightly to look at. The goblins are complaining that it's too bright and Jack Frost refuses to put it back in his pocket. Deena disguises Kirsty and Rachel as sunglasses salespeople, and magics up a pair of black out glasses. They trick him into taking the pair, and he puts them on. Deena darts forward to grab her diya, but Jack Frost is gripping it too tightly. Kirsty asks him to hold up his light so she can see something, and as he does so, he goes to take off the glasses. However, as he does so, Deena swoops down and grabs her diya back! As she takes it back, the darkened houses on the street start to light up again, and the girls cheer. Jack Frost angrily realises he's been tricked and reminds them that he still has three magical objects. He goes back home and Deena thanks the girls before sending them back to the Anands'.
Kirin is just coming up the stairs, and offers the girls some sweets called mithai. They accept gratefully, and they head back downstairs. He asks them if they noticed the lights go out earlier, saying that his mum thought it must've been a power cut because of the wind. The girls share a secret smile.
