Rachel and Kirsty are walking with Mrs Tate to the Storytelling Festival so they can see their favourite author, Alana Yarn. They come across the Story Barge, with the man on board pointing them to a hollow where Alana will be. Mrs Tate says goodbye and the girls join the other children in time for Alana. She hands out copies of Thumbelina for a read along, but halfway through a character is replaced by a goblin. Kirsty points out the error but Alana and the children disagree. The girls notice a cushion move and a fairy flies from underneath. She introduces herself as Elle the Thumbelina Fairy who takes them to the Fairyland Library, where they meet the other Storybook Fairies.
Using a library book, the pictures showed Jack Frost and his goblins sneaking into the library, unlatch a box and put the contents into a bag, then leave. Elle explains that the box's contents were the fairies' magic objects that give the holder control of their stories. Elle takes Rachel and Kirsty with her into Thumbelina's story, where they find the flower prince crying in a window box. He explains Thumbelina was kidnapped by goblins, turned into fairies.
Rachel and Kirsty are led by the prince to an island where the goblins are arguing over who should marry Thumbelina. They decide to have the prince distract the goblins while they seize the ring. But before they do, the arguing goblins land in the stream and a goblin puts the ring on. Thumbelina is wary of marrying him, but Rachel asks Elle to magic up a ring and tries to convince the goblin to exchange, but he'll only do it if Thumbelina marries him there and then. She agrees.
The goblin groom asks if Thumbelina will dress up, but she admits she's unhappy. The goblin says he doesn't care and can't wait to see the other goblins' jealousy. Elle conducts the ceremony and requests a ring exchange. The goblin reluctantly does so and Thumbelina gives the thumb ring to Elle. Thumbelina declares her marriage to the flower prince and they have their own wedding, with woodland creatures as guests. Rachel and Kirsty stay for the celebrations until Elle sends them back to Alana's read along, where they are surprised to find they're part of the story and vow to find the other objects.
Trivia[]
- There's a very special magic in Elle's hair where the longer it grows, the longer people remember fairytales.
