Esther the Kindness Fairy is the first fairy in the Friendship Fairies series.

Esther has dark brown hair with fringe tied back in a ponytail and friendly dark eyes. She wears a dark pink cropped top and skirt printed with blue and white flowers, black leggings, and black open-toe ankle boots. Her wings are light pink-tinted.

Rachel, Kirsty and their parents are back on Rainspell Island staying at Sunny Days Bed & Breakfast. At breakfast, their parents are talking about what to do when the owner Mr Holliday tells them his daughter Ginny and her friend Jen are organising a Summer Friends Club. Rachel and Kirsty decide to go and they walk to Rainspell Park. They head inside a tepee where the club is and Ginny and Jen greet them. The girls go and sit down to make name tags at the same table as Lara and Oscar, another pair of best friends. When they’re finished, Ginny and Jen take everyone outside to have a game of football. Rachel and Kirsty are put on opposite teams and everyone’s having fun up to halftime, when everyone goes to get snacks and Rachel and Kirsty find a fairy under a hoodie-turned-goalpost. Esther the Kindness Fairy invites them for a tea party with the Friendship Fairies who have heard so much about the girls.
When they get to Fairyland, they meet the other Friendship Fairies who flash their magic objects to make sure we know they exist. They enjoy some tea and cakes and walk round the garden but come back to Goblins forming a ritual-like ring around the table, with Jack Frost in the middle eating all the food. Jack Frost magics their magic objects away and disappears. Esther summons Florence the Friendship Fairy who strengthens the magic of the bracelets and she gave Rachel and Kirsty bracelets so the girls won’t fall out during the quest for the objects.
Esther takes the girls back to the human world where everyone’s fighting over juice and cookies. Ginny and Jen stop talking to each other and the football game commences, with everyone being more selfish than before, arguing and blaming each other for their failures. A new boy joins in and scores, but the girls see he’s a goblin. He’s wearing Esther’s brooch. Kirsty suggests they offer him a shirt that’s much cooler to swap so Esther magics one up, but before the goblin can respond, Ginny and Jen announce a water balloon fight. Soon enough, everyone’s pelting balloons at each other, apart from the goblin. The brooch is making everyone be kind to him, so he’s not getting wet.
The girls turn into fairies and the three fairies fly at the goblin, herding him towards a fountain. He falls in, getting completely wet. The girls become humans again and offer the goblin the dry shirt that Esther magicked up. He agrees after they tell him he can make friends without Esther’s brooch, so they swap the shirt for the brooch. Esther thanks the girls and leaves with her brooch, and the girls see everyone making up. They decide to go back to the club tomorrow.

- Esther can sometimes be a bit shy, but it doesn't stop her from being a brilliant friend.
- Her Spanish name is Ester.
Etymology[]
Esther is named after a friend of the book's author, Rachel Elliot. In the Special Thanks section, the book is dedicated to "Esther O'Byrne".
