Rachel awakes in Kirsty's room from a dream about Doodle, spotting a wispy feather-shaped cloud outside that vanishes before Kirsty can see it. In the kitchen, Mr Tate shows the girls a flyer for a "Fun Run" in a nearby woods that day - Mrs Tate will be racing. He leaves to pick up Gran, and Mrs Tate hurries off dressed for running. The girls decide to take the longer path along the river, where Rachel notices more mist, some substantial enough to be hanging from trees when they reach the forest. Kirsty sees it too this time. In the woods, the mist thickens into fog, making it hard for runners in the race to see where they’re going. The girls find Evie the Mist Fairy glowing through the fog, and turn themselves into fairies to look for the goblin with The Mist Feather, with Evie leaving a trail of fairy dust so they don’t get lost.

A dark shape Rachel thinks is a goblin turns out to be a stump, but the real goblin is not far away, complaining about being lost and hungry. A runner passes by, and the goblin hides in fear, whispering about a Pogwurzel - Evie explains to the girls that Pogwurzels are imaginary monsters made up to scare goblin children into behaving. Rachel suggests they make the goblin think the forest is full of Pogwurzels so he’ll give Evie the feather to clear the fog. Kirsty decides she and Rachel should turn human and run past the goblin yelling that a Pogwurzel is chasing them.

They feign surprise at seeing the goblin, exclaiming he must be brave to have come this far into Pogwurzel Woods. Evie offers to make a clear path out of the forest with the feather, but the goblin seems more afraid of Jack Frost’s anger over losing the feather and doesn’t hand it over. Evie sends fairy dust into a nearby bush, making it speak in a growling voice about wanting goblin pie for dinner. The frightened goblin tries to hide behind the girls, and Evie makes the bush shake and growl menacingly about tasty naughty goblins until he hands her the feather and begs her to make him a safe path out of the woods, which she does.

As the goblin runs away, Evie waves the Mist Feather and clears away the fog, then hides in Rachel’s hair as the girls leave the woods, cheering on Mrs Tate when they see her, and meeting up with Kirsty’s father and Gran. Back at Kirsty’s house, Evie gives Doodle the Mist Feather and he squawks "If his…", making the full message "Beware! Jack Frost will come if his" so far.
