Ally the Dolphin Fairy is the first fairy in the Ocean Fairies series.

Ally has long, wavy brown hair. She wears a long silver dress with silver sandals, a dolphin necklace, and silver bangles. Her wings are pointy and lightly tinted with blue.

Kirsty’s grandmother, with whom Kirsty and Rachel are staying for a week, drops the girls off at a resort called Lea-on-Sea while she does some shopping. The girls hurry to the beach, where they find a scallop shell shimmering with gold sparkles. Inside it is a little scroll inviting them to a Fairyland Ocean Gala, and the girls hide among some rocks so they can use their magic lockets without being seen.
In Fairyland, the girls find themselves on a beach near the Royal Aquarium. They glimpse the Party Fairies overseeing the festivities, and then Shannon the Ocean Fairy introduces her seven helpers the Ocean Fairies, who run the aquarium and look after the human world’s oceans. But when Shannon is about to play a magical tune on her conch shell (the main event of the Gala), Jack Frost storms in and grabs the microphone. He announces that because he doesn’t like the ocean, no one should enjoy it, and calls five goblins to take the conch. The clumsy, arguing Goblins drop the shell, which shatters into seven pieces, and Jack Frost sends the pieces to the human world before departing. Queen Titania brings the fairies inside the aquarium, where she points out the seven Magical Sea Creatures and sends them to guard each piece of the conch in the human world. Kirsty and Rachel agree to help retrieve the pieces, and the queen chooses Ally the Dolphin Fairy to help them locate her dolphin Echo first.
The fairy magic sends the girls and Ally to an aquarium in the human world. Upon hearing an announcement for a wild dolphin show, they hurry to a jetty where aquarium workers offer fish to dolphins that live nearby in the ocean. But when the dolphins arrive, they seem disoriented (due to the conch being broken) and there’s no sign of Echo. After the other spectators and workers leave, Kirsty notices that the two boys carrying buckets of fish are goblins. At the same time, Ally spots Echo following the rest of the dolphins, and quickly turns the girls into fairies with extra magic to keep them breathing and dry underwater. The three fairies catch up to the dolphins in a little grotto, and Echo tells Ally she hasn’t seen the conch piece yet.
Kirsty sees the piece of shell sparkling on the seafloor, but she, Rachel, and Ally have to duck out of sight as two divers approach. These turn out to be the goblins, heading straight for the shell. Luckily, a small crab picks up the shell first, and more crabs move to guard him. Ally asks Echo and the other dolphins to chase the goblins away, then turns a stone into a pearl with her wand and offers the pearl to the crab in exchange for the shell.
Unfortunately, the goblins have circled around and returned. One goblin snatches the shell piece and swims quickly for the surface, where another goblin on water skis snatches it and speeds away. Ally holds onto Echo’s dorsal fin and asks two other dolphins to be the girls’ rides. When they catch up, all three dolphins jump at once, startling the goblin into dropping the shell. Echo catches it in her beak and leads the other two dolphins away. Ally takes the shell, thanking the girls, then scatters fairy dust over them—the girls find themselves as humans back on the beach where they found the invitation.Trivia[]

Etymology[]
Ally is named after a friend of the book's author, Sue Mongredien. In the Special Thanks section, the book is dedicated to "Alexandra Mair Spinochia".
