Dance Fairies

Flora the Fancy Dress Fairy (U.S. name: Flora the Dress-Up Fairy) is the 6th fairy in the Holiday Special Fairies series.

Blurb[]

Kirsty's cousin is holding a magnificent fancy dress ball, and Rachel and Kirsty can't wait. But Jack Frost and his goblins are planning their own party in the same place and are set to spoil everything! Can Flora and the girls save the ball and make sure fancy dress parties aren't ruined forever?

Appearance[]

Flora has long green and blue hair in ringlets topped by a tiara of shells. She wears a dark blue bandanna top with an emerald green and blue skirt shaped into a mermaid tail and green ballet slippers. A loop of string around her arm is attached to the tail to make it curve up. Her wings are round and turquoise-tinted.

Symbol: Blue pinwheels.

Magic Objects/Job[]

Magic Objects:

  1. The Figurine: makes sure the party food tastes nice.
  2. The Red Riding Hood Cape: looks after all the costumes, so that they're not splitting at the seams.
  3. The Masquerade Mask: contains the party atmosphere.

Job: Flora's job is to make sure all types of fancy dress parties go smoothly.

Jack Frost's Poem[]

Goblins one and goblins all,

I summon you to my summer ball.

At McKersey Castle we will meet

To sing and dance and drink and eat!

The reason I am sure is plain.

It's to celebrate my glorious reign

So on full moon, to the castle gate,

Come with gifts and don't be late.

The Great Cake Robbery[]

Kirsty, Rachel, Mr and Mrs Tate are driving to McKersey Castle in the Scottish Highlands for her cousin Lindsay’s wedding anniversary party - a masked ball. Lindsay and her husband Robert greet them in the courtyard and Lindsay shows them around the castle, including the girls’ drawbridge-view room. They spot a van from ‘McKersey Village Cakes’ driving up to the castle, and Lindsay leaves the girls. They feel a sudden gust of icy wind and see the stairs leading up to the turrets have frozen over. As they climb the stairs, they hear Jack Frost scheming to a goblin about holding his Icicle Party here. The girls decide they need to do something, so they open their lockets and go to Fairyland.

Rachel knocks on the door of The Fairyland Palace and Bertram greets them, and leads them to the King and Queen, telling them what they heard. The King and Queen summon Flora the Fancy Dress Fairy, dressed as Snow White. Flora decides to go back to McKersey Castle to keep an eye on Lindsay’s party preparations, changing her costume into a mermaid one. Rachel spots a gaggle of goblins messing around the cake van, who take out Lindsay’s large cake. As they fly closer, Flora recognises the figurine on top as her magic one, so she tells the goblins to put the cake down. The goblins, however, reveal they’re taking it to Jack Frost, pelt some of it at the fairies, and bundle it into their own van. Rachel notices the drawbridge, and tells Flora to raise it, which she does, stopping the goblins from driving off.

Kirsty orders the goblins to give the cake back or Flora will lock them in the dungeons, so they tip the cake out the back of the van, and Flora lowers the drawbridge so they can drive off. Flora takes her figurine off the ruined cake, which she transforms into an even bigger one. The girls thank her, and Flora hides just as Lindsay and the delivery man enter. They marvel at the cake, and take it inside. Flora returns to Fairyland, leaving the girls worried for what Jack Frost will do next.

The Big Costume Kidnap[]

The next day, the girls are watching the preparations and ask Lindsay if they can help. She leads them to the costume room, but the girls hear goblin squawks coming from inside, and stop her before the goes in. Lindsay asks them to check all the costumes and leaves them, letting them enter the room to find two goblins knocking costumes off the railings and throwing them out the window. They climb out the window and drop onto a boat with two other goblins waiting, and the girls see Flora’s Red Riding Hood cape in the pile. As they race downstairs, Flora appears from out of some armour, and see them row away in the moat. At first panicked, the girls realise the goblins are just rowing round in circles and Rachel tries to pick out the cape from on the drawbridge. The goblins escape the bridge, put on some of the costumes and run off.

Flora shrinks the leftover costumes so the girls can put them in their pockets, and they chase after the goblins up the mountain. They come across some mountain goats, and Flora uses her magic to ask the goats to help them. They trot in front of the goblins who shake with fear, as they think they’re pogwurzels. As a goat leans forward to sniff one goblin’s hat, he’s convinced he’ll be eaten, and Kirsty suggests they take the clothes off so the goats can eat that instead. They do so and run off, scared.

They find the magic cape and Flora grows the goats thistles as a thank-you. Rachel and Kirsty go back to the costume room and Flora tidies all the costumes away, making her magic cape part of a Little Red Riding Hood costume for Mrs Tate, and conjuring up a grey wolf costume for Mr Tate. The girls thank her and she disappears.

The Magic Mask Mystery[]

Lindsay looks in the room to check the girls and is pleased to see all the costumes sorted. The girls choose two angel costumes with wings and harp accessories and leave to get changed. They enter the ballroom and stare in awe at the decorations, finding Flora sitting by the cake. Rachel spots a load of goblins dressed up smartly in the courtyard, and decide they need to make them go away, so Flora changes the address on their invitations to ‘Jack Frost’s Ice Castle’, and they angrily walk off.

The girls go to the entrance hall to find the party guests acting like the characters they’re dressed up in, such as a scarecrow, an American cowboy and a tiger. Lindsay comes up to them and says her mask is missing, which matches the description of Flora’s magic mask. She explains she last had it when she went to the wine cellar, so the girls go down there to look for it. They see footprints in the dust leading into a wall, and they think there might be a secret room on the other side. Rachel presses an indentation which reveals a secret passageway, and Kirsty finds another one at the end, but Flora tells her to wait, as they all hear Jack Frost’s voice.

Jack Frost is addressing some goblins, ordering them to steal all the masks at a party, and he is clasping the magic mask in one hand. Kirsty sneaks up behind him and whips it out of his hand, running back to the secret entrance, and Flora securing it shut. They celebrate, and the girls run back to Lindsay, dressed up as a Tudor queen. As Kirsty approaches her, she snobbishly sends her away but as soon as she puts the mask in her hand, she returns to normal, thanking the girls for retrieving her mask, and the party guests enter the ballroom.

Suddenly, Bertram arrives on a rainbow and invites the girls to drop in on the King and Queen’s fancy dress party, to which they accept. When they get there, the King and Queen thank them for helping Flora, and Jack Frost and his goblins are dropped into the party from a rainbow. Flora magics him into a pirate costume, followed by his goblins. Flora changes herself into a witch and the party continues, with the Queen sending the girls back to the human world to enjoy their own party. When they return, they find the fairies have made their harps real, and they enter the ballroom.
