Rachel, her parents, and Kirsty are going to see a football game: Tippington Rovers vs Alton United. They’ve arrived early per the girls’ request, and the girls are anxious to find Francesca the Football Fairy’s magic ball before the game starts. Rachel’s father buys a scarf in Tippington colours for Kirsty, and after the girls get permission to look around Kirsty goes to put the scarf on and finds Francesca sitting on the end of it. The fairy quickly hides as a stadium official runs by, speaking into a walkie talkie about all the stadium’s footballs going missing. This sounds like goblin mischief to the girls, although they’re not sure why a goblin would want ordinary footballs if he had Francesca’s magic one. Meanwhile, a commentator is talking to various fans on the stadium’s TV screen, including Mr. Walker. The camera follows the commentator back to his box where a small man wearing both teams’ colours has several footballs in a large net bag. The girls and Francesca realise he’s a goblin and hurry for the box.

At the bottom of the stairs leading up to the box, the girls are just in time to see the goblin dragging the netful of balls out the door towards them. Francesca orders him to stop, startling him, and he drops the net causing footballs to pour down the stairs. Rachel and the goblin notice one ball is surrounded by gold sparkles, but before either of them can get it another official scoops it up and puts it back in the net. The official scolds the goblin, saying ballboys should look after footballs rather than losing them, and the girls realise the goblin must be dressed as a ballboy. The official tells the girls to go find their seats and brings the goblin and all the footballs into a private section of the stadium, and Francesca changes the girls’ outfits with her magic to match the goblin’s so they can follow him. Inside, they discover that the goblin has managed to escape with the magic football.

The girls and Francesca follow the sound of the goblin’s voice and find him dribbling the football on his way outside to the car park. Francesca turns the girls into fairies so they can follow him faster, but they lose sight of him again until Rachel sees one of the coach buses zigzagging slowly towards an exit. Looking through the coach windows, the three fairies find an entire football team of goblins inside, with the Magic Football rolling around between the seats. The goblin they’d seen before is now driving the coach, arguing with the nearest other goblins, and Francesca asks the girls to distract him while she sneaks in to get her football (which will shrink to its Fairyland size as soon as she touches it) before opening the coach window with her magic.

Rachel and Kirsty land on the steering wheel, startling the goblin driver. He tries to grab them, but misses and then hits the brakes as the coach approaches a line of parked cars - it bumps one gently as it stops, which causes the steering-wheel airbag to inflate, trapping the goblin in his seat. The other goblins are so busy laughing at him that Francesca is able to retrieve her football and escape with the girls; the three of them hover out of reach as the goblins get off the coach and stomp away. Francesca returns the coach to its original position with her magic, making sure neither it nor the car it bumped are damaged, then brings the girls back to the stadium entrance where she turns them human with their ordinary clothes. The girls say goodbye to Francesca and hurry to find their seats before the game begins.
