Kirsty and Rachel are making daisy chains in Kirsty’s garden, accompanied by Pearl the kitten. A voice from the next lawn over turns out to be Kirsty’s neighbour Mr. Cooper, who’s hiding presents around his yard for his son Jamie’s fifth birthday party that day. At the mention of a party, the girls offer to help out (in case a goblin shows up to ruin things). Mr. Cooper agrees and the girls come over before the party is scheduled to start to set up decorations. Kirsty gives Jamie a toy car as a present and is assigned with Rachel to putting up streamers and balloons. When Jamie unrolls the gold-and-silver streamers, he’s dismayed to see that the paper has been cut into short pieces. Kirsty brings some sparkly blue tape from home to fix them, but both girls suspect goblin meddling. Mrs. Cooper asks the girls to let in Mr. Chuckles the hired clown and when they return to the lounge they find that all the streamers have fallen down.

They quickly tape them up again before Jamie comes back from greeting the clown. When Kirsty tries to inflate a balloon, she finds that all the balloons have holes in them, but luckily Mr. Chuckles has some extra ones with him. At that moment the guests arrive and Mr. Chuckles hurries to put on his makeup as the spare balloons begin to pop - fortunately, the children have been distracted by the promise of a treasure hunt. Before the girls can search for the goblin they know is nearby, Rachel sees Grace the Glitter Fairy through the Coopers’ window and the girls barely warn her to hide in time before the children rush outside. The girls follow them and Kirsty scoops up Grace before anyone gets a good look at her, telling a curious guest that the sparkling was just a sweet wrapper and not a hidden present.

The girls bring Grace inside, where Kirsty immediately notices a goblin-size lump behind one of the curtains. They plan to grab him while he’s hindered by the fabric, but Mrs. Cooper interrupts, asking the girls for help with some snacks and telling them the children will soon be inside to watch Mr. Chuckles perform. In the brief interruption, the goblin has taken down the decorations again and disappeared from behind the curtains. Grace offers to fix them, but Kirsty reminds her that the goblin will try to take her bag if she does. At the mention of the bag, the goblin starts scrabbling from behind the sofa, giving Kirsty an idea. Grace sets her bag on the coffee table, loudly stating it’s too heavy to carry, while the girls invite her in raised voices to see Jamie’s train-shaped cake in the kitchen. Kirsty picks up the tablecloth and they all hide behind an armchair, Grace turning the girls into fairies so they’ll all fit. They drop the paper tablecloth on the goblin as soon as he’s in the open, but he starts tearing his way out, so the girls quickly tie him up with lots of streamers.

Grace retrieves her party bag and sends the goblin back to Fairyland in a puff of fairy dust, then turns the girls back into humans and fixes all the decorations better than they were previously before leaving for Fairyland herself. Mr. Chuckles’s clown show is spectacular and he finishes with balloon animals, first an elephant for Jamie, then a giraffe and a zebra for the girls as a thank-you for the decoration help, then more for the other children. Jamie happily declares it his best birthday ever.
