On their last day of the Fairytale Festival, Rachel and Kirsty are admiring the grounds of Tiptop Castle. They begin tying a welcome banner near the entrance, since that evening there will be a ball for all the kids of the festival and their parents. When they leave to get ready, they see a fountain sparkling and Lacey the Little Mermaid Fairy is swimming in the fountain. They all hear voices shouting on the other side of the courtyard so Lacey turns the girls into fairies to see what’s happening. They find four Goblins scrabbling around on a lilo in the moat having caught the Little Mermaid in a net. They tell her if Jack Frost wants to be star of the Little Mermaid story, he needs lessons on begin mermaid. While they’re distracted, the fairies try to untangle the Little Mermaid’s tail but they fail. The goblins paddle towards Tiptop pond, where Jack Frost is waiting for them, dressed as a mermaid and holding a trident.
The Little Mermaid reluctantly gives Jack Frost a lesson on swimming as a mermaid. Meanwhile, the fairies decide to look inside the boathouse but the magic oyster shell is nowhere to be seen. Then they see that the oyster shell is hanging from the trident, along with other gems and jewellery. Lacey magics up some bubbles for Rachel and Kirsty to put over their heads so they can breathe underwater. When they swim down the lake, Kirsty gets caught in the weeds but with help from some fish, she gets freed. This gives the fairies an idea and they ask the fish to tickle Jack Frost’s toes. However, it doesn’t make him drop his trident and after being asked by Lacey, he still won’t give the oyster shell back.
Rachel and Kirsty don’t want to give up though and encourage the fish to keep tickling. Rachel tickles his knees with a piece of pondweed and Jack Frost finally breaks, dropping his trident and falling over in the pond. The goblins paddle over to save him but it’s too late as Lacey has her oyster shell back. The Little Mermaid thanks them as she fades back into her story and the fish keep on ticking after Jack Frost yells at them. Lacey takes the girls back to Fairytale Lane where the other Fairytale Fairies are waiting for them. Queen Titania and King Oberon are also there with their frog footman.
They all thank Rachel and Kirsty. Then, Cinderella’s fairy godmother comes out of Faith’s house with two beautiful gowns for them to wear to their ball. The girls are magic back to Tiptop castle where the ball is about to start. They find their parents in the ballroom and everyone has a good time dancing and eating. Rosie the dance teacher suggests they finish the evening with a story and the girls fetch The Fairies’ Book of Fairy Tales and are happy to see The Little Mermaid story is in there.
