Kirsty and Rachel run across the sand and hug each other. They and their schools are taking part in the school gold medal games, a competition where school children play sports and the top two best players enter a final so one can win a gold medal, Kensa Lane announces the first competition, surfing. Rachel introduces Kirsty to one of her classmates, Shanti Sharma, before they go to practice one last time. In the sea, the girls see a patch of water sparkling more brightly and find a fairy sitting on a surfboard. The fairy introduces herself as Layne the Surfing Fairy and explains that Queen Titania sent her to ask the girls if they like to attend the Fairyland Surfing Festival.
They agree and Layne transforms them into fairies. They arrive at the festival on a wave and Layne shows them around before introducing them to the other Gold Medal Games Fairies. Then Jack Frost and his Goblins turn up and try to surf. Layne says he is welcome to join in and have fun but the festival is not a competition and there is no winner. Jack Frost angrily tells her he will win elsewhere and get a gold medal before disappearing along with Layne's surfboard. Layne asks the girls for help and they return to Port Pearl, where the atmosphere is different compared to earlier.
Heat one begins and three surfers enter the water, when a fourth surfer appears, named Lightning Jack (who is actually Jack Frost in disguise) and carrying Layne's surfboard. The other surfers struggle when three sharks appear and frighten them, who reveal themselves to be goblins. Lightning Jack wins the heat thanks to Layne's surfboard and he and the goblins go to a beach cafe where he is praised. Kirsty has an idea to pretend she and Rachel are super fans and get the surfboard but Lightning Jack turns them away and the girls leave to go to the third heat. Kirsty catches a wave, but a lack of confidence causes her to panic and lose her balance while Rachel falls in headfirst. Lightning Jack boasts about being the best and Layne and the girls try to tell him that feelings are better over winning.
Enraged, with a wave of his wand, Jack orders the goblins to steal the other magic objects. As he walks away, Rachel notices the other surfboards are lined up like dominoes. Kirsty has an idea. She asks Layne to magic up a camera and Rachel calls Lightning Jack over to take photos. He plants the magic surfboard into the sand and Kirsty topples them all down into a pile. The other surfers try to find their boards as another heat is called. Rachel spots Layne's surfboard underneath and Layne lands on it, shrinking it to fairy size. Jack stomps away and Layne thanks the girls and returns to Fairyland. That afternoon, Shanti is awarded the first medal and Rachel wonders what the other magic objects are. Kirsty says she feels another adventure is coming before they have a sunset surf.
