Mrs Walker has brought Rachel and Kirsty to a large funfair, where Rachel’s friend Holly is to be auditioning for a magician act in the Tippington Variety Show at the end of the week. After being introduced to Kirsty, Holly tries to practice some of her tricks before the audition starts, but none of them are working. Worse, she finds that the door on her rabbit’s portable hutch is open and the rabbit is missing. While helping Holly look for the rabbit, Kirsty finds a fairy inside a hidden compartment of Holly’s top hat. She shows Rachel, who announces they’ll look outside for the rabbit and hurries out of the audition tent.
The fairy introduces herself as Madison the Magic Show Fairy, one of the Showtime Fairies and brings the girls to Fairyland to explain what trouble Jack Frost has caused this time. At the Fairyland Theatre, which the girls haven’t seen before, the Music Fairies and the Dance Fairies are rehearsing for their own variety show and having a terrible time, the six other Showtime Fairies explain Jack Frost hadn’t liked the idea of the fairies having fun, so he had his Goblins steal the stars from the ends of the Showtime Fairies’ wands and hide them in the human world. Madison tells the girls that she’d suspected her star was somewhere at the funfair where she’d found the girls and accompanies them back there.
First, Madison conjures a magic carrot that lures the missing rabbit out from under a table. Returning him to Holly, the girls search the tent and soon discover a group of disguised goblins pretending to be clumsy to sabotage other children's acts. Overhearing that the group’s leader has entered as “The Great Gobbolino” from “Icy Towers School”, the girls are sure he has Madison’s star. She turns them into fairies so they can sneak closer and Rachel is able to see the star in Gobbolino’s cloak pocket before he sees her and swats her away. The goblins run from the tent, climbing into some empty dodgem cars and driving wildly to escape the fairies. Madison tries to retrieve her magic star, but Gobbolino takes her wand and decides to go win the auditions instead of ruining them. Attaching the magic star to the wand, which has grown large enough for him to use, he leads the other goblins back towards the tent.
No one else wants to audition first after their practising has gone so wrong, so no one stops Gobbolino from climbing onstage. With her limited supply of wandless magic, Madison turns the girls human and at Kirsty’s suggestion turns their clothes to glittery dresses so they can be Gobbolino’s “assistants”. For this, they borrow a few props from Holly, then announce to the audience that they challenge the Great Gobbolino to a magical duel.
Rachel lifts Holly’s rabbit from her hat and Kirsty signals Madison to tie up Gobbolino with a string of silk scarves, making sure she herself is hidden while she flies. Rachel tells Gobbolino they’ll let him go if he hands over “his” wand and with the audience watching and thinking this is a planned act, he has no choice but to comply. Madison unwraps the goblin and lets him slink away while the judges thank the girls.
Once offstage, the girls return the borrowed props and Madison’s wand to their owners and Madison changes their clothes back to normal while assuring them that the magic show should go well. After she returns to Fairyland, the girls watch the other acts and are thrilled when Holly wins.
