Kirsty finishes practising her steps for her ballet school’s first anniversary recital while Rachel cheers her on, then warns her they should look out for goblins since this will be another party. The dancers’ parents will be bringing desserts and Mr Tate has made cupcakes. At the recital hall, the girls are amazed by the decorations and refreshments. Both girls taste the food to make sure no goblins have messed with it and then Kirsty’s ballet instructor Miss Kelly calls her back to the dressing room. Rachel volunteers to help with the dancers’ makeup, keeping an eye out to make sure nothing else has been ruined.

The performance is beautiful, the costumes and music make the dance even prettier than the steps Rachel saw Kirsty perform. But then the music from the CD player gets faster and faster, too fast for the dancers to keep up and Miss Kelly can’t seem to fix it. Rachel can’t find Kirsty in the confusion as the dancers rush backstage, so she starts looking for a goblin instead and spies a tambourine shaking all on its own. It’s too small for a goblin to be hiding underneath, but Rachel is still careful as she lifts the tambourine to discover Melodie the Music Fairy, crying over the loss of her party bag. She hadn’t known a goblin was responsible for the sped-up music and he’d ambushed her when she came to help. Rachel promises to help find the bag and tucks Melodie into her pocket just as Kirsty finds her and tells her she suspects goblin activity. Rachel introduces Melodie and the three begin searching for the goblin.

He isn’t in the dressing room or the office, but Kirsty hears the sound of a piano being played rather badly and leads the others to the music room. No one is touching the keys, so Rachel deduces the goblin must be inside the piano and Kirsty sneaks across the room in her soft ballet shoes and quietly shuts the lid. (The goblin, clanging loudly across the strings, doesn’t notice her.) Rachel spots a pair of cymbals and gets an idea, Melodie turns her into a fairy and each takes one cymbal while Rachel whispers her plan to Kirsty. At just the right time, Kirsty opens the piano lid just as Rachel and Melodie fly towards each other and crash the cymbals right over the goblin’s head. As they had hoped, the goblin drops the bag and flees the room, covering his ears. Melodie retrieves the bag, but then Kirsty hears footsteps and both fairies have to drop their cymbals and hide in the piano.

When Miss Kelly walks in, Kirsty makes up an explanation about knocking over the cymbals while she looked for another CD player. Miss Kelly says she thinks they have the first player fixed and leads Kirsty away, leaving Rachel and Melodie trapped in the piano. Fortunately, Melodie is able to open the lid with magic and turn Rachel human again. Back in the main hall, Rachel finds that one of the parents, an electrician, has taken the CD player apart but can’t identify the problem. Melodie could fix it, but not with everyone watching. Instead, Rachel brings Melodie backstage where she enchants all the spare instruments to play themselves. Rachel tells Miss Kelly she’s found another CD player and the ballet goes wonderfully. Kirsty makes sure to thank Melodie before they part ways and the girls enjoy the rest of the party.

Trivia[]
