Kirsty and Rachel happily wrap up a silver headband for Kirsty’s friend Charlotte Ingle, whose birthday party they will soon be attending. Kirsty’s parents have an errand to run, so they drop the girls off at Charlotte’s a little early. They’re already on the lookout for goblin trouble, so they aren’t surprised when Charlotte shows them her gold-and-white dress has been ruined with green paint. Neither Charlotte nor her little brother Will have been anywhere near the dress all morning, so Mrs. Ingle concludes it must have brushed against something and brings it and Charlotte to the dry cleaners to see if they can fix it before the party, while Kirsty and Rachel decorate the little cakes for the party. They take a quick break to search Charlotte’s room for the goblin who painted her dress, but they don’t find him. Back in the kitchen, Kirsty spots Phoebe the Fashion Fairy through the window and lets her in. The girls quickly explain what’s happened and are about to bring Phoebe to Charlotte’s room when they realise the icing bag has gone missing.

A goblin hops out of Will’s toy chest and hits Phoebe with a squirt of icing from the stolen bag, knocking her into a large red jelly on the table as her party bag flies from her hands. The goblin grabs it and a little cake and jumps out the window. Phoebe frees herself from the jelly and turns the girls into fairies to follow him, and he quickly barricades himself inside the playhouse in the corner of the garden. Phoebe can’t get the door open, and the girls can’t either even when Phoebe turns them human - the goblin must have wedged a chair against the door. Kirsty has an idea to bait the goblin out with more little cakes, and Phoebe makes them fly from the kitchen window around the outside of the playhouse. The goblin can see the girls, though, and he isn’t fooled.

Rachel suggests spraying the garden hose down the playhouse chimney, remembering that goblins hate having wet feet. The goblin refuses to come out and return the party bag, so Rachel turns the hose on full blast and the playhouse begins to fill with water. Soon, the chair the goblin wedged against the door floats aside and the door springs open, releasing a wave of water across the yard. Rachel snatches the party bag from the goblin as he floats by straight into the garden pond, defeated. Just then, the Ingles’ car returns and Rachel hurries to turn off the tap while Phoebe flies away to clean up the messes in the yard and the dining room. Charlotte looks despondent - the dry cleaners couldn’t get the paint out of her dress - and the girls worry that Phoebe might not have had time to clean up the dining room yet as Mrs. Ingle heads for the house.

The dining room looks beautiful, though, and the girls are called up to the bedroom by Charlotte, sounding excited. Three pretty dresses are hanging on the wardrobe door - red with golden hearts for Charlotte, pink with a lilac dragonfly for Kirsty, and lilac with pink butterflies for Rachel. Kirsty tells Charlotte that the dress is their birthday present for her, and they got it while the Ingles were at the cleaners. Charlotte opens the present Kirsty had wrapped and finds a golden necklace with red heart-shaped beads. Charlotte runs to show her mother the new outfit, and Phoebe peeks out from behind the curtains to say a proper thank you and goodbye to the girls, who are delighted with their magical dresses.
