Rachel and Kirsty are sitting around a campfire where Alana Yarn introduces the final fun activity of the Wetherbury Storytelling Festival, which is passing a book around and taking turns to read a sentence aloud. Everyone manages to enjoy the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but when it comes to Rachel, she reads about Goblins instead of the wolf. They’ve hijacked the story. When it’s the next boy’s go, the girls see Ruth the Red Riding Hood Fairy inside the basket of Alana’s Little Red Riding Hood cosplay. The girls duck behind a tree log to talk to her and Ruth magics them away to the wood of the Red Riding Hood story.

The girls walk through the forest, watching Red Riding Hood skip through the forest until she’s attacked by three goblins, taking her cloak, spilling her basket of cakes and ripping her dress. They run away and the girls help Red Riding Hood up. She thanks them and continues on her way to her grandmother’s and the girls turn into fairies to follow the goblins in hopes of finding Ruth’s basket. They follow the goblins to a clearing where Jack Frost is lounging on a hammock, holding Ruth’s basket. The fairies fly over to try and grab it, but as Jack Frost sways around to avoid them, he falls off the hammock, getting tangled in it along with the goblin’s Red Riding Hood cloak. Unfortunately, the basket is lost in the mess of hammock and cloak, so the fairies need to think of another way to get the basket. Kirsty suggests getting the Big Bad Wolf to scare Jack Frost, so the fairies fly off through the woods to find him.

They come across Red Riding Hood and ask her to lead the wolf over to the clearing. She continues acting out her story, leading the wolf, who is stalking her, to the clearing. The wolf howls very loudly, scaring Jack Frost, who drops the basket. Ruth darts over and takes it back. Red Riding Hood apologises to the wolf and points him in the direction of her grandmother’s house so the story can resume. She happily skips off, back to the eternal purgatory of being stuck in a book acting out the same story.

Ruth takes the girls to the Fairyland Library where the other Storybook Fairies are. Jack Frost magics himself there and demands they return the objects to him, as if they would. Rachel and Kirsty suggest he makes up his own stories to star in, rather than invading others. Kirsty hands him a notebook and he leaves enthusiastically. Ruth gives the girls a Fairyland Library membership card and sends them back to the human world. They find themselves back at the campfire and Alana hands out marshmallows for everyone to toast. Then she encourages someone to tell a story using what they learnt from the Storytelling Festival. Rachel and Kirsty decide to tell a story of fairies and goblins and then everyone claps.

Trivia[]

  • Ruth loves her super-stylish glasses, which help her see through all sorts of magical and non-magical disguises.
