The Curly Twirly Shell[]
Rachel is packing for her summer holiday to Rainspell Island when she notices she forgot to ask her mum to wash her favourite t-shirt. She hears carousel music, and the shirt is clean, apart from a tiny sandy footprint. Kirsty and her parents arrive and the families go to Rainspell Island.
On the ferry, all is sunny until the sea suddenly becomes rough, juggling the boat over the waves. The girls discover Summer the Holiday Fairy hidden in a pile of ropes, feeling seasick. She gives Rachel some magic seaweed which, when it touches the waves, calms them. Summer explains she needs their help finding her magic shells because Jack Frost wants Rainspell Island all to himself for the holidays and leaves. The rest of the journey is smooth, but when they get off the boat, they find the sand on Rainspell beach is missing, and a passer-by explains how a giant storm blew it all away, leaving pebbles and rocks. The families decide an ice cream might cheer them up, but the ice cream seller Rosie explains how the ice cream keeps melting, meaning she’ll have to close. The girls decide this is because Summer’s Curly Twirly shell is missing.
The girls hang around on the beach, coming across Summer who is helping a hermit crab whose shell got whisked away with the sand. She transforms them into fairies and they fly over Rainspell, coming across a giant sandcastle studded with seashells. They see goblin guards outside. Three are scoffing on ice cream, but the one guarding the drawbridge doesn’t have one and has to watch. The others walk off, and the drawbridge goblin kicks the sandcastle wall, bringing the girls’ attention to a pink twisty shell - Summer’s magic shell.
Summer and Rachel attempt to trick the goblin that there is ice cream behind the sand dune a short distance away, but he isn’t convinced. They fly away, and Summer magics splodges of melted ice cream onto their clothes, convincing the goblin they tried to bring it to him. He leaves his post and Kirsty zooms over to the shell, plucking it out from the sandy wall. The goblin runs back after realising there is no ice cream, but the girls fly off. Summer leaves to put the shell back in its rightful place in the underwater cave, and the girls go back to their parents. They hear the chime of the ice cream van, and find Rosie is giving away free ice cream at the joy of her ice cream machine working again. Rachel chooses chocolate, and Kirsty chooses strawberry.
The Sea Breeze Shell[]
The next day, Mr Walker and Mr Tate are taking part in the regatta, and the families walk down to the town square. The harbour master announces that if there is no wind, the regatta can’t take place. As the crowds wait to see if the wind will pick up, Rachel and Kirsty are allowed to play on the beach, and they see Summer again. She explains Jack Frost has put her Sea Breeze shell on one of the turrets of his sandcastle.
The girls are transported over to the castle to find the goblins holding their own regatta. The sun shines on the shells, making one of them sparkle. They decide to tunnel their way into the sandcastle because they might be spotted if they fly up. Rachel discovers the hermit crab, Henry, who Summer was helping earlier. They see Jack Frost staring at the chaos of the goblin regatta out of the window. He orders them to do something else, setting a music competition. All the goblins set off finding things to use as instruments, and a nearby goblin is trying to blow a tune with a shell similar-looking to the Sea Breeze shell. Summer magics up a shell with musical magic to give to him in return for his shell. He agrees, and the girls take the other shell. Henry introduces his friend Sally the beetle, who burrows a tunnel into the sandcastle wall. The girls follow her up, and they eventually arrive at the other side of the wall. The girls thank her and fly up the staircase to the turrets.
They start blowing on shells, as normal shells will make a sound but the Sea Breeze shell will just produce more wind. Kirsty blows a shell which makes a loud foghorn sound, and all the goblins look up to see the fairies. Hastily, Summer shines her wand over the shells finding the one which sparkles. The girls tug it out of its place and replace it with the shell they traded, and slide down Sally’s tunnel. As they fly away, they hear Jack Frost scolding the goblin who traded shells, as the magic has run out.
Just in time for the harbour master to cancel the regatta, Summer blows the shell and a breeze brews up. The regatta can go on! Summer leaves the girls to put the shell in the underwater cave and the girls spectate the regatta, and their dads’ boat wins.
The Magic Scallop Shell[]
The girls are on the beach again and ask Mr Williams for a donkey ride. He declines, as his donkey Pippin has hurt her hoof on the stony beach. They find Summer in a Rockpool, and she’s discovered Jack Frost is keeping the final shell on his throne in the Great Hall. They fly over to the castle and find there are more goblins on guard, and the windows have been made out of freezing cold ice. Summer uses her wand to slowly melt through the ice, draining her power and making her feel tired.
They make their way to the Grand Hall to find it empty, and seize opportunity to take the shell. Just then, Jack Frost storms in and sees them. Summer turns the floor glowing-red hot, distracting him. She then melts the windows to let the sun shine in. Just at the right moment, it cracks, and Jack Frost, hindered by the burning sun, calls for his guards. Kirsty carries the shell and Rachel carries Summer, weak and tired, to the window but Jack Frost freezes it over. They head to the staircase and hear Sally. She quickly digs a tunnel and the girls hide as the goblin guards run past.
Sally’s tunnel leads them to a high window ledge. A seagull called Gregory flies over to them and offers to fly them down to the sea on his back. Rachel and Kirsty accept and they hop onto his back just as the goblins see them through the window. Kirsty laughs as she sees Jack Frost yell at them from his window. Summer wakes up as Gregory lands by the sea. She takes out a bottle of bubble mixture and blows three big bubbles which the girls place them over their heads like divers’ helmets. They bid Gregory farewell and jump into the sea, swimming to underwater cave. Summer places the Magic Scallop on the shelf along with the other shells. They hear a deep rumbling sound from above, then silence. Summer guesses it was Jack Frost’s castle falling down. They all return to land and see a taunting message scrawled in the remaining sand. The rest has been transported back to Rainspell beach, where children are playing happily and Mr Williams are Pippin are back on the beach.
Summer thanks the girls for their help and disappears. The girls’ parents join them on the beach carrying a picnic hamper and their beach bags. As the parents set up the picnic, the girls find sparkling swimsuits in their bags, a present from Summer. They get changed behind a rock and run across the sand into the sea.
