In Camp Stargaze’s observatory building, Rachel and Kirsty listen to Professor Hetty the astronomer talking about constellations. She presses a button to open the roof panel and children take turns at the telescope, pointing out patterns of stars they see and what they look like. When it’s Rachel’s turn, she’s astonished to see some of the stars appearing to move, joining a constellation that looks somewhat like Jack Frost’s face. Professor Hetty is excited about the new constellation, but the girls know it means something is wrong.

Outside the observatory, Peter is there to lead an orienteering activity. The girls are eager, having had fun with orienteering before, but hearing that they’re supposed to navigate by the constellations is concerning since the stars aren’t staying put. Rachel notices one speck of light training downwards instead of towards the Jack Frost shape and she and Kirsty follow it to find Zara the Starlight Fairy behind the observatory. She confirms their suspicions that Jack Frost is using her bag of stardust to make a self-portrait in the night sky. The girls agree to help her look for the bag along the orienteering route and read the first clue: “Go north and mind you don’t slip”. This leads them towards a constellation shaped like a slipper, which loses most of its stars to the Jack Frost portrait when they arrive at a signpost marked “1”. A chirping sound interrupts the girls and Zara points out a flock of lost birds called Blue Buntings that usually navigate by the stars.

Two rowdy boys that the girls had noticed earlier shove ahead of them and take all the glow-in-the-dark star stickers from the pile at the signpost, sticking them all over themselves. The next clue says to go west towards a toothbrush shaped constellation, which is mostly gone but Zara is able to point out where it was. On the way, the girls point some other campers towards the first signpost, since they can’t see the slipper constellation anymore. Kirsty trips over her untied shoelace and notices a trail of sparkly dust on the ground as the rude boys ahead of them must be Goblins carrying Zara’s bag and leaving a trail of stardust. The girls follow the trail to the entrance of the camp, where the goblins are scooping all the star-shaped chocolates from the number 2 signpost into their pockets. Zara turns the girls into fairies to follow the goblins unseen.

In the woods, the goblins pile up the chocolates and place Zara’s bag on top. They haven’t eaten many before one of the lost birds swoops by, frightening them and they scoop up the whole pile and begin to run. Near the edge of the forest, the goblins run into Peter, who crossly demands that they hand over the prizes which are supposed to be for everyone. Realising they can’t let Peter see the bag, Rachel has Zara turn her and Kirsty human and announces that the goblin “boys” are helping carry the chocolates back to camp after she and Kirsty found them in the woods. After Peter leaves, the goblins don’t act very thankful for the help instead, they start throwing the chocolates at the girls until Zara has to turn them back into fairies to escape. The goblins begin to run again once they’re out of chocolates to throw and the three fairies chase them back into the woods. A shadowy winged shape scares Kirsty, but it turns out to be another lost bird. Getting an idea, she switches on her handheld light and shines it at Zara and Rachel so their shadows appear huge on the trees. Catching on, Zara makes her and Rachel’s voices sound loud and scary with her magic and the goblins are soon so scared of the “giant Pogwurzels” that they agree to leave the bag on the ground for Zara.

Once she has her bag back, Zara directs all the stolen stars back into their proper places, including those in the last constellation on the orienteering map. The third clue leads the girls to the observatory, where a table of snacks and treats has been laid out for a prize. Glancing through the telescope, the girls see a light zooming upwards, which bursts into several sparkles that briefly form a fairy-shaped constellation before disappearing.
